Last night I penciled the cover for a short story that I’m working on. This drawing may be the last that the public hears about said comic. It’s really only designed to appeal to me.
I drew this page a few weeks ago. After that, I completely forgot everything about this comic. Characters, storyline. I really can’t recall a thing. All I know is that Smokey loses. What was that concept? Another volume for the Sandman Library of Lost Books.
Things that I’m into:
Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth I just started reading this comic book. It might be the best comic that Marvel publishes (I don’t know, I only have looked at a few of their comic books). It will be cancelled about a month. Second-to-last issue comes out this Wednesday and the final issue comes out next month.
Young Liars by David Lapham. I bought the first issue of this wild comic book but never followed through. Turns out, the comic was one of the most insane things coming out before it got killed due to low sales. I take the blame for that, personally. There’s three volumes of the collections out and I recommend giving them a chance. Some YOUNG LIARS is better than none.
The Avengers. I have never purchased or owned an Avengers comic book in my life. But for some strange reason, I picked up the first issue of Brian Michael Bendis and John Romita Jr’s new AVENGERS series and I totally loved it. It rocked the spot! I did not enjoy Spider-Man in the comic though, I didn’t realize that he’s kind of a dick. The type of dude who makes a joke and I just pretend that I didn’t hear it.
DV8: Gods and Monsters. By Brian Wood and Rebekah Isaacs. This is the best new comic book coming out right now. No, better than that one too. Sorry, your opinion is also incorrect. This is an eight-issue series about a mid/late 90s supervillain team, the Deviants who, for some yet-unknown reason, are on a primitive earth. The team fractures. Some amass armies, others try to protect the natives. Two issues in, but I’m on the edge of my seat.
King City. Best comic, overall. It’s funny, it’s silly, it’s sad, it’s gloriously out of its own mind. Read it or shut up about comics.
I wasn’t going to mention Joe the Barbarian, but I just stumbled across this interview with artist Sean Murphy and this guy is hardcore. He’s right, more comics industry professionals need to straighten their spines and hand out kidney punches and nut taps to the dudes polluting the field.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like Joe the Barbarian, I have just been writing all morning and I’m rather tired.
Special Notices:
On Saturday, June 26th, 2010, I’ll be up at The New Haven Summer Comics Fest 2010 in New Haven, Connecticut. I will be traveling light, but I am planning some nice little treats for all the New Haven, CT comics fans out there. Come see me.
I would be making a mistake if I failed to mention that HOLY GOD, WTF WTH SMH LOL OMG WWJD COMIXOLGY’S “COMICS” APPLICATION IS NOW AVAILABLE TO INTERNET BROWSERS!
The Faithful Few may recall that I am a part of the unholy House of Twelve comics organization, lead by the evil warlord Cheese Hasselberger. House of Twelve is making some serious noise with a new digital comics series distributed by the Comixology group. Initially, this was only available on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. What I’m trying to tell you glorious dudes is that the application is now available through internet browsers! Just go to Comixology.com and log into your account as you would on your digital device. Or set up an account if you don’t already have one. It’s free to sign up, comics cost some money. I have a mildly “mature” comic in the first issue of House of Twelve Monthly. The issue costs 99 cents. Let me know what you think, if you happen to buy it!
Also, be sure to send a “congratulations” to my good friends Miss Lasko-Gross and Kevin Colden who are expecting their first child in November! WHAT HORROR HATH THOU WROUGHT?!
